Vergil claimed that most of his work on the last book was done contemporaneously with the events as they unfolded.

Extensive notations and annotations in the same hand throughout, largely confined to margins, but with some interrupting the text. Instances of underlining throughout.With the stamp of Car. I. Taboris to the front pastedown.A very scarce work, offering a detailed contemporary account of sixteenth century England. In a full vellum binding. Partial remains of metal clasps to fore edge of front and rear board. Vellum significantly age toned, with extensive handling marks. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with significant losses of vellum to these regions. Joints starting, with rear board holding firm, and front board a touch tender. Inscriptions to front and rear pastedowns. Lacking blanks. Internally, generally firmly bound, but with first three gatherings working loose. Pages age toned. Small worm holes to head of each leaf of index. Tide marks throughout the work to page perimeters. Extensive inscriptions to title page and final leaf, with further ink annotations throughout.
